If someone is in immediate danger, call 9-1-1. Crisis lines support people who are struggling; they are not an emergency service.
What happens when you reach out
- A trained person answers. You do not have to explain everything, or have the right words.
- You can text instead of talking. Kids Help Phone and 9-8-8 both take texts.
- You can stop whenever you want.
- You do not have to be suicidal to call a crisis line. Struggling is enough.
What we can and cannot do
Pathway to Hope provides education and community resources. We do not provide counselling, diagnosis, treatment, or emergency response, and we are not a crisis service. If you need help now, the support page lists services that are open 24 hours a day.
We are a small nonprofit that makes free education about mental health and addiction. Our inbox is read by people, not monitored around the clock, and we cannot help in an emergency. The services above can, and they are open every hour of the year.
Worried about someone else?
Supporting a person you care about is its own thing, and it is hard. We wrote a separate page for that.
